Fashion IS Important
There is a huge difference in not caring about the way you look and not caring about what people think of the way you look. Personally, I believe EVERYONE should care about how they look. It's not about being prissy or snobbish or a perfectionist - not at all. It's about realizing who you are, declaring personal style, being comfortable with yourself, and having fun. If you don't care about your appearance then you're really missing out on a lot - it's not about everyone else, but it's about you. However, I also believe it's important to care about what others think of you - to a certain extent. Take pride in the way you look so you're not ashamed for others to notice - CARE about how other people think you look. However, be your own person and have your own sense of style and don't let anyone take that away from you. There's a huge difference in caring what people think and then caving to people's opinions. For example, if you go out all the time without ever washing your hair and in the pajamas you got ten years ago, you don't care about the way you look and you don't care what others think of you. But if you take effort to work on your wardrobe, your makeup, you're having a good time and caring for your appearance and your self-happiness. However, if someone disapproves of your look or something about you and you immediately change it, that's NOT caring what others think - that's caving to pressure from your peers. Whether you like wearing bold colors, pretty clothes, looking punk, or a unique assortment of different styles to make them your own, it's your look. If someone criticizes it, don't listen to them. You look the way you love looking, and you love being you - and don't let anyone change it. People criticize others for stupid reasons, and even a lot of the time they are wrong. A huge part of fashion is self contentment and expressing yourself. You can't do that if you're worried about what others think all the time. Getting ready to look nice means you care, no matter what your style is. Changing your style because of someone else's opinions is sad. Express yourself and HAVE FUN!
